The League is considering whether to institute formal skills assessments (tryouts) for players age 10-12 and whether to base placement into the Major Division on tryouts and/or a pre-season player draft. An advantage of this change would be to realign the League's divisional format to more closely parallel the national Little League model: stronger players aged 10-12 with the requisite skills and an interest in playing a more competitive Spring season would be given an opportunity to play more intensely, with more weekday games and perhaps an occasional Saturday or Sunday double-header or back-to-back Saturday-Sunday games; recreational-level players would play a more traditional, less demanding WSLL schedule -- one weekend game and occasional weekday games.
The League is organized into Divsions into which players are grouped by age, and team assignments made to approximate a balance between experienced and less experienced players. The League places players according to the following age categories:

* Note revised date (April 30) for determination of League Age (by new Little League regulation)
Players ages 7-15 with physical and emotional disabilities that would otherwise keep them from participating in Little League baseball will have the opportunity to play in the Challenger Division. The League reaches out to the entire community to identify children who can be served by the Challenger Division. Parents who wish to have their child participate should check the box on the registration form.
