WEST SIDE LITTLE LEAGUE TOURNAMENT TEAMS TRIUMPHANT!

WEST SIDE LITTLE LEAGUE'S 11-12'S TOURNAMENT TEAM WINS THE DISTRICT 23 2008 LITTLE LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP!

Tuesday night, on our home field at 103rd & Riverside, the West Side Little League 11-12's (MAJORS) TEAM beat Inwood by a score of

15-2 to become the FIRST West Side Tournament team EVER to win the District 23 Championship in this Age Group.

The entire Board sends its Congratulations and thanks to all the players, parents, and to Manager Tom Olavson and Coach Dave Schwartz for this great victory and wishes them continued success ALL THE WAY TO WILLIAMSPORT!

To win the title West Side had to play seven tournament games! After beating Downtown in their first contest, West Side lost to Inwood and then had to work its way back into contention by rising through the Losers' Bracket. After defeating Harlem, East Harlem, and North Riverdale, West Side met undefeated Inwood, beating them 6-5 at Inwood (the game ending on a walk-off solo home run), and then the following night on our field, beating them again--this time by the 15-2 score.

A truly exciting season of Tournament Ball for this wonderful team and more to come as they move to the Sectionals!

Their next game is this Saturday, July 19th at 11am in Kings Bay Brooklyn. See below for directions to this field which is in Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn.

The 9-10's team has now won its first two games in the District 23 Little League 9-10s Tournament and Today (Thursday) faces Felix Milan Little League at 5:30 up in Harlem at Marcus Garvey Field -- 121st on Mt. Morris Parkway one block east of Lenox Ave.

This is a mighty, powerhouse of a team. Come and cheer them on!

GO WEST SIDE!

DIRECTIONS TO KINGS BAY PARK IN BROOKLYN FOR SATURDAY JULY 19th --11am game-- 11-12's Sectional Game:
1. B train (Central Park West/6th Avenue local) all the way out to Sheepshead Bay (The B becomes an express in Brooklyn), then the B4 bus to Coyle Street. Hopstop.com estimates the travel time from the upper west side is about an hour and a half... If you would rather walk than take that bus (I suspect you would not), the site estimates it is a 20 minute walk.
2.If you are on the upper west side, you might save some time taking 2 or 3 express to Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn and transferring there to the the B (or the Q ... see below). Otherwise, go to Central Park West and take the B all the way.
3. The Q train (express in Manhattan, but local in Brooklyn) serves the same Sheepshead Bay subway station, from which you would take the same B4 bus or walk.
4. OR just go to hopstop.com and you can find easy directions to the game from wherever you are traveling from!
5. DRIVING DIRECTIONS: These are directions to the clubhouse for Kings Bay LL, on the northeast corner of Voorhies Ave and Coyle St. The fields appear to be just to the south of Voorhies Ave.

From Google Maps:
End 2670 Coyle St
Brooklyn, NY 11235
Travel 22.5 mi – about 41 mins from the UWS
1. West Side Highway South to Battery Park Tunnel
2. Take the Battery Turn ramp on the left to I-278/ Brooklyn 0.3 mi 2 mins
3. Merge onto Brooklyn Battery Tunnel Partial toll road 1.9 mi 4 mins
4. Continue on Gowanus Expy (signs for Hamilton Ave) 2.9 mi 4 mins
5. Slight left at Belt Pkwy E (signs for Belt Pkwy) 9.4 mi 12 mins
6. Take exit 9A toward Sheepshead Bay/Knapp St 404 ft
7. Merge onto Shore Pkwy 0.2 mi
8. Turn left at Knapp St 0.2 mi 2 mins
9. Turn left at Voorhies Ave 0.2 mi 1 min
10. Turn right at Coyle St 243 ft
Last step -- I THINK the fields are actually to the left (South) at corner of Voorhies and Coyle. These directions are to the clubhouse...

If you want to avoid the toll for the Battery tunnel, the Brooklyn Bridge to the BQE West to the Gowanus works as well...
