Westside advances to 9-10's District 23 Final

Two undefeated Manhattan teams invaded the Bronx on 7/14 for a semi-final
showdown to determine who would claim the first berth in the District 23
championship game.

The first inning set the tone for a hard tight battle as the Inwood starter struck out the side. Inwood was determined to run but Kai Glick served notice by gunning down their first steal attempt. Inwood would not attempt to steal another base the rest of the game and would only advance 1 runner on a wild pitch. Smart defense and well executed cutoffs stalled the speedy Inwood runners and forced them to move a base at a time.

Jarobi Moorhead led off the 2nd with a monster line drive smash triple to
left center that split the Inwood outfield. He then scored to put the
Westies up 1-0. Inwood answered back in the bottom of the frame to tie it
1-1. Westside pitching led by Chris Golston (4 innings, 5 K's, 2 hits, 1 ER)
and defense including an amazing diving play in right field by Mikael Mogues
shut down Inwood after that. West side blew it open in the 5th with smart
base running, hard hitting and 2-out clutch RBI singles by Mathew Nunez and
Noah Mathews to score 5 and take a 6-1 lead. Alec Schaw came in to relieve a
tiring Golston in the bottom of the inning and held Inwood to a run in the
5th and 1 in the 6th before Glick came in to slam the door shut and record
the save.

The WSLL 9-10's are the only undefeated team remaining and play for the
District 23 championship on Sunday 7/25 at 1PM at the Inwood field (218th street and Indian Road, easily accessible by the 1 train and right behind Columbia's Baker field).

Come and Cheer them on!
